The declaration by the President of the Confederation of African Football, CAF, on Cameroon’s readiness to host the 2019 Africa Cup of Nations, AFCON, has sparked reactions of disdain on the streets of the Capital, Yaounde and other parts of the country.

The fact that CAF inspection team is still to tour facilities and infrastructure to host the 2019 AFCON,has left many Cameroonians wandering if the claims are founded.

Many disgruntled Yaounde city dwellers say, it is abnormal for the CAF boss to make an affirmation at a time Cameroon has been struggling to complete renovation works at the sites.

In a rather sounding tone, some say the statement bares a hidden agenda since the CAF inspection team has not yet been to Cameroon.

Others have remained optimistic that Cameroon has potentials to host the 2019 AFCON. They say Cameroon counts a good number of stadia, training grounds, hotels, road network and many more facilities to play host to the twenty-four participating teams.

Many say, despite the fact that the number of participating countries have increase from 16 to 24, Cameroon has promised to deliver on time.

Cameroonians in Yaounde like elsewhere add that Cameroon’s success at the 2016 Women African Cup of Nations is a clear indication that the country is more than capable of hosting the football jamboree.
