Relegation-threatened PWD Bamenda aka Abakwa Boys have sacked their Joseph Monthe after a series of poor results.
The sledgehammer fell on Coach Joseph Monthe after his side was beaten on Saturday, July 1 in Bamenda 0-1 by visiting AS Fortuna.
The club president, Pascal Abunde, confirmed the sacking of Joseph Monthe which is due to the team’s poor run of form this year in the MTN Elite 2 championship.
Coach Joseph Monthe has been replaced by his assistant, Daniel Ndjock.
Since the commencement of the MTN Elite 2 championship, the legendary PWD of Bamenda are yet to replicate the form they had in the hey days. The club’s poor form has left them stuck in the relegation zone since the championships started.
Some pundits however, think that the sacking of coach Joseph Monthe is not the solution to the club’s survival.
This, is because they believed that poor leadership, lack of finance, among others, have been some of the reasons for the club’s poor run of form this season. Also, PWD supporters have been described by some pundits as ‘armchair supporters”.
Also, they have been reports of incidents in which players have to give their phones as collateral to sleep in a hotel in douala ahead of their game against Douala AC in the first round.
Presently on the 17th position with 17 points in 20 games, the Abakwa Boys have registered the greatest number of draws than any other club in MTN Elite 2 – that is, 11 draws.
They have won just two games, and have lost seven after scoring a total of eight goals and conceding 13.
They hold the record of the worst attack in the with just 8 goals in 20 games.
