The drowsiness of the driver at the wheel of the big bus that carried the players would be the cause of this accident which saw at least five persons seriously injured.
After playing on Wednesday September 6, at the Municipal Stadium in Ngaoundéré an advanced Day 31 game of the ongoing MTN Elite Two national football championship against Ngaoundéré University football club (2-4), Renaissance of Ngoumou were on their way on Friday, September 8 to return to their base in Yaoundé.
The accident occurred about fifty kilometers from Bertoua, the chief town of the east Region.
“Some passengers say that our driver was sleeping and lost control of his car at a turn. The bus overturned. I believe that for the time being there was more fear than harm because there was no human death but we have three seriously injured players who are receiving care at the Bertua Regional Hospital,” Coach David Pagou of Renaissance de Ngoumou told Cameroon-info.net on phone.
