The kick off of the 2017 edition of the Southwest playoffs dubbed Southwest Mini Interpools took place on Saturday, November 18 at the Molyko Omnisport Stadium.
The first game saw Southwest Regional League three-time champions, best Stars of Limbe in a much talked encounter against Maumu Youths FC.
With Best Stars proving their hegemony in the early part of the game but however failing to concreticise their chances, it will only be at the 37th minute that Leonard Kisun Ngwa of Best Stars slotted in the first goal in the encounter.
The celebration will be short-lived as Maumu Youths FC through Bright isuma Mondoa will make it 1-1 after converting a penalty before both sides go on recess.
In the begging of the second half, it was a game of equal strength as Maumu Youths FC players seem to have found some steam to see them take over control of the game.
At the 87th minute of the game, Maumu Youths efforts paid off as they took over the lead thanks to a goal from Ajoh Akomu Richard.
With Maumu FC fans singing and chanting thinking their victory was guaranteed, they will be dumbfounded at the 91st minute of the game when substitute for Best Stars Njie Thompson Ewona made it 2-2.
After extra time of play which saw Best Stars’ Mathieu Mvondo shown red after a second yellow in the first half of the extra time, could only see both sides deciding their progress on penalty shoutouts.
It was Maumu Youths that carried the day with a 5-3 victory.
