Arsenal FC’s highly-rated midfielder Matteo Guendouzi has pledged his allegiance to France.

The 19-year-old player, who was born in France to a Moroccan father, has been a revelation for the English Premier League (EPL) giants this season.

Guendouzi was reportedly approached by Morocco manager Hervé Renard in 2017 to change allegiances to play for the Morocco national team.

The Lorient player has since told Canal + Sport that he is keen to represent France.

“Since I was young, I’ve always played with the French teams,” Guendouzi told French television station Canal Plus.

“It’s a dream to play with the France senior team (…) And I’m hoping to get there, it’s a dream for me to make it happen.”

It is said that Guendouzi’s father met Renard in March 2017 and he indicated that his son was looking to continue playing for France.

The promising player has been played for France’s youth national teams.
