Arsenal’s Pierre-Emerick Aubameyang
The Gunners may have succumbed 1-0 at the hands of Wilshere’s current club, West Ham United, in a Premier League clash this past weekend, but that didn’t stop the midfielder from praising the West African player.
Wilshere and Aubameyang were teammates at the Emirates Stadium for the second half of the 2017/18 season, following the latter’s arrival from Borussia Dortmund a year ago. The English midfielder left Arsenal to join the Hammers midway through 2018.
“For a midfielder he’s a dream,” Wilshere told Sky Sports.
“He came in January last year and I played with him for the second half of the season.
“He makes runs and he gets frustrated when midfielders don’t find him.
“But he does it consistently throughout the game, he will make three or four runs a half that are crying out for a ball to be put in behind.
“Defences in the Premier League will hate that.
“As a centre-back, the last thing you want is a quick player who runs behind and he does that.”
Aubameyang is enjoying a fine season with Arsenal, having scored 14 Premier League goals to date.
