The running romour in and out of the Cameroon that LFPC’s main sponsor MTN Cameroon has backed out from the sponsorship deal signed in May 2017 between both institutions has been laid to rest this Monday afternoon. The League’s head of Media division, Jean Marie Nkoussa took to social media to publish a release signed by both parties stating that the relationship continues though with adjustments in financial conditions.
The release signed on the 7th of May 2018 reads; “In accordance with the provisions of the sponsorship agreement signed between LFPC and MTN Cameroon on the 17th May 2017 recently assessed, MTN Cameroon and the professional footballer have decided to readjust their respective engagements for the 2018 and 2019 seasons.
This adjustments are subject of an addendum signed on Friday, 4th May 2018 in Yaoundé by the president of LFPC, General Pierre Semengue and Saim Yaksam MTN’s Chief Executive Officer.The adjusted
Stated clearly that;
MTN remains the prime sponsor of the elite competitions( One & Two) for 2018 and 2019.With Electronic rights over the Communication sector and mobile financial services maintaining the championships appellation as MTN elite one and Two championships in 2018 after which the professional league has the right to get a title sponsor in 2019.
MTN is expected to spend 1430 billion FCFA on the league by 2019. Speaking after the addendum was signed on the 17th of May,Mr Yaksam said he is happy that MTN remains the major promoter of football in Cameroon.
To General Semengue, the addendum is a good agreement which preserves the interest of key actors in local football especially clubs.
Monday’s release kills many doubts and puts all attention on football as elite two and one championships come alive on Tuesday and Wednesday respectively.
