From Mount Cameroon, one could think that was where the seismic reactions came from; absolutely not.
The celebrations were from the Roumde’ Adjia stadium. A new classification table of club’s in Africa have been made public by CAF, and who else but the Cottoners to salvage Cameroon: The 15 time winners of the Cameroon premier division have powered their way through to the 10th spot in Africa.
It’s an emphatic rise giving the fact that Coton stormed through the continent’s heavy weight’s such as Mamelodi Sundowns of South Africa, Eyimba of Aba, and a palatable follow-up list.
The screams shouldn’t only be in the land of the sun (Garoua), but nation wide, as the closest to the Cotoners from Cameroon are Eding Sport(150), UMS (167) really there just to make up the numbers aren’t they?
For over a decade, representatives from Cameroon have had Hocus pocus performances at the level of the continent :Eding and New Stars being the latest failures as they never made it past the playoffs in 2017.
Since the inception of the CAF African Champions’ League, Cameroon dominated during it’s birth but are crumbling in the competitions adolescence as Oryx Douala, Canon Yaounde, and even Union Douala can boast of a championship bout pre 2000 era.
However, we are expecting better from the 2008 finalist as they have never won the continental jamboree, and though they have undoubtedly acted as a reservoir to the lions over the year’s with the likes of Aboubakar Vincent, Edgar Salli (best player at the under 20 in 2011), still cannot boast of anything as per the continent.
This classification should help buster the confidence of Coton Sports of Garoua under the stewardship of former Indomitable Lion Bertin Ebwelle, to go ahead and do big things.
