Football world mourns Phil Masinga's death

Bafana Bafana legend Phil Masinga has died at the age of 49.

The former Leeds United forward sadly passed away at Parktown hospital, Johannesburg on Sunday morning following a long battle with illness.

Masinga will be best remembered by South African fans as the man who scored the goal against Congo in 1997 that booked the country’s place at a first FIFA World Cup; the 1998 showpiece in France.

The 1996 Africa Cup of Nations winner enjoyed spells in South Africa, England, Italy, Switzerland and the United Arab Emirates. Masinga was capped 58 times by Bafana Bafana, scoring 18 goals.
