Genk’s African contingent were unable to lead them to victory as they played to a 1-1 draw against Besiktas in the UEFA Europa League on Thursday night.

Joseph Aidoo, Joseph Paintsil (both Ghanaian), DRC’s Dieumerci Ndongala and Tanzanian Mbwana Samata all started for Genk, but were unable to lead them to a victory which would have guaranteed them a spot in knockout stages of the competition.

Despite the result Genk still top Group I with seven points, two points ahead of second placed Sarpsborg 08. Malmo FF are in third, also on five points while Besiktas are last with four points.
