Napoli’s Kalidou Koulibaly (L) and Sampdoria’s Albin Ekdal in action
The Neapolitans saw their ambitions suffer a blow this past weekend when they were held 0-0 by Fiorentina on Saturday.
Juventus hold a strong lead at the top of the log and look the clear favourites to go on and claim the championship for the eighth successive time. But Koulibaly insists Napoli still have hope of chasing down the ‘Old Lady’.
“Anyone who doesn’t believe in the Scudetto should stay out of the locker room. As long as it is mathematically possible, I will continue to believe,” said the Teranga Lions star.
“We are very competitive and want to get closer to Juve. It’s tough, because they are strong and keep winning, but we have to continue along our path.”
Koulibaly added, “It’s disappointing, as Fiorentina caused us problems with their high press in the first half, but once we started passing it around well, we went clear on goal several times.”
Napoli will return to Serie A action next Sunday with a home match against Juventus’ cross-town rivals Torino.
The Naples-based team has not won the Italian league title since 1990, when Diego Maradona was still on their books.
